West Bloomfield 248-538-6000 early Greek lyric poet who wrote about love among women. "There is a kind of epidemic of young women servicing men in order to get the men to accept them, but Molly says that women should respect themselves and not feel they are being forced to do anything they don't want to do." Jong, on the board of directors of the Woodhull Institute in New York City, which provides ethical leadership train- ing and professional development for women, says her daughter grew up in a family where no book was banned and no topic of conversation was forbidden. "Molly has her own views. I would not presume to tell her what to think because I know that it would back- fire," Jong says. "I know that she's going to have to experiment with dif- ferent philosophies, and actually she's done that and has come to her own passion and identification with being Jewish. She feels very strongly about marrying a Jewish man and raising her children in the Jewish tradition." Jong, who has been married for 13 years to Jewish attorney Ken Burrows, is not observant but is committed to her ethnic identity. She has visited many Jewish centers around the coun- try to read from her last published book, Inventing Memory. "It's my Jewish roots novel about four generations of Jewish women," the author explains. "I talk very much about Jews as people of the book, as people of memory and as people who are the conscience of the human race. "I think it's no surprise that many Jews become writers and revere writers because we pledge never to forget our ancestors and our history." Erica Jong will address a luncheon meeting of Planned Parenthood of Southeast Michigan 11:15 a.m. • Thursday, May 16, at the Ambassador Hotel and Conference Center, 16400 J. L.
