The perfect
close-out

roan time is always special. For students, it's a
rite of passage — a culmination of the high
school years. For parents, there's discussion on
curfew and attire. And here, at Style at the Jewish News,
it's our third-year anniversary. For the past two years,
we've continued the prom theme featuring local stu-
dents preppin' for prom.
This year we showcase the fashion merchandising
class at West Bloomfield High School. Teacher Julie
Zalla (shown in the photo) spearheaded the event
involving almost 100 students who produced a runway
fashion show, and worked with local retailers who pro-
vided the fashions. Photographer Angie Baan and art
director Debbie Schultz met the students before the
event and then captured their exciting project. What
fun!
If you haven't visited Detroit's newest kosher restau-
rant, take a peek inside Milk and Honey on our food
pages. I recently had dinner there as part of the Jewish
Family Service sixth-annual Reva Stocker Lecture.
The food was great, the restaurant was bustling, and
the banquet room was lovely. Writer Lynne Schreiber
and chef Jim Barnett give us some suggestions for
Shavout, celebrated on the eve of May 16 through May
18.
Murals are the latest trends in home decor. Stacy
Schwartz of Ypsilanti creates some stellar works of art in
this medium. Check out her enchanting scenes in this
issue.
If prom time is here, summer is too. Looking forward
to a summer packed with fun.
