She was hopeful when we went downtown for the awards that she would be in the top three. She was in shock when she won. "There were very few public schools represented, most were parochial. It shows the excellence of the teachers and the school system in West Bloomfield. It is quite an accomplishment." Paul Snider, Shelby's father, said, "I am very proud, happy and excited for her. I wanted to put the fact that she won on a billboard. When I was in sixth grade, I won an award and it is something I will never forget.
