Orthodox Deliver
Torahs To IDF
Jerusalem/JTA — The National
Council of Young Israel delivered nine
Torah scrolls to Israeli Defense Forces
(IDF) soldiers.
• The 16 members of the North
American Orthodox group's delegation
sang and danced with the scrolls in hand
when they presented them recently at a
military base near Ramie. The delegation
also traveled extensively in Israel and the
West Bank. The nine new scrolls were in
addition to 21 others donated for army
use in the past year and a half.
Croatia Eyes
Wartime Past
Zagrel/JTA — Croatian television
ran a documentary about Croatian
victims of the Holocaust. The April
22 documentary included interviews
with Holocaust survivors who spoke
about what they endured during the
war, when the Nazi-puppet Ustashe
regime ruled Croatia.
A day earlier, members of the
Croatian government, including
Prime Minister Ivica Racan, attended
a memorial ceremony at the Jasenovac
concentration camp. Some 17,000
Jews, as well as tens of thousands of
Serbs, Roma and others were killed at
Jasenovac under the Ustashe regime.
