Jolson Wins
AZA Basketball
JCC Tourney
On June 3
Jolson AZA's "A" basketball team
had to go to overtime, but won the
AZA basketball championship April
28 with a 56-49 victory over
Greenberg AZA.
Jolson outscored Greenberg 10-3
in the five-minute overtime at the
West Bloomfield Jewish Community
Center.
Jolson A defeated Marx 44-37 to
reach the championship game.
Greenberg defeated Shapiro A 43-
39. In the consolation game for
third place, Marx beat Shapiro A 62-
30.
High scorers in the championship
game for Jolson A were Jeff Kresch
and David Grant. Zach Fink led
Greenberg with 18.
Elliot Charlip, who subsidizes the
AZA basketball league, presented the
Avrum -"Bud" Charlip Trophy to Jolson
A. The chapter won AZA flag football,
Regional Convention basketball and the
AZA basketball league.
The Jewish Community Center of
Metropolitan Detroit's annual Dr.
Larry D. Sills Memorial JCC Golf
Classic will be played Monday, June 3,
at the Links at Pinewood, Commerce
Township.
Proceeds provide scholarships for
children to attend the JCC's camp and
sports programs.
A buffet luncheon begins at 11 a.m.,
followed by a shotgun start at 12:30
p.m. A cocktail reception and open
bar starts at 5:30 p.m., followed by
dinner and awards at 6:30, and an 8
p.m. drawing.
Chairs for the day are Terry Nosan
and Susie Sills. Steering committee is
Rhonda Monro, Ken Manko, Roanld
Rich, Arthur Sills and Melissa Wolf-
Litvin. Director is Karen Sklar
Gordon.
Cost is $275; dinner only, $75.
