Michigan BBYO Hosts Conclave The Michigan Region of B'nai B'rith Youth Organization (BBYO) hosted BBG's 2002 International Mind-Body- Attitude Convention from March 15-17 at Camp Maas in Ortonville. The convention is an annual educational, social and leader- ship training event for BBG members from all over North America. Guest speakers included Rabbi Shayna Potter, resident rabbi at University of Michigan Hillel, who led a•Judaic pro- gram; Florine Mark, president of Weight Watchers International, who spoke about nutrition; Brian Greene, BBYO's new international director; and Beth Cousens, past regional N'siah. The Jewish Women's Foundation of Metropolitan Detroit provided a $10,000 grant to help-fund the conven- tion. Center for Childhood Weight Management Media Panel Probes Conflict Israel in the Media, a panel of media professionals sponsored by the Political Committee of Federation's Young Adult Division, will take place 7 p.m. Thursday, May 9, at the.Birmingham Community House. Program panelists are Arthur M. Horwitz, publisher of the Detroit Jewish News; Ron Dzwonkowski, writer, Detroit Free Press; Steve Mitchell, pollster; and Nolan Finley, editorial page editor, Detroit News. Shalom Campers Plan Weekends The Shalom Campers of Michigan have selected the following sites for their 2002 camping season: • May 10-12: Pontiac Lake Recreation Area, Highland Township, featuring bike and hiking trails, horse- back riding; very close to Indian Springs Metro Park for golf and nature center. • Memorial Day Weekend — May 24-27: Camper's Cove, Wheatly, Ontario, with visits to Colosanti's for flowers and zoo, and to Pointe Pelee for the spring migration. • June 14-16: Groveland Oaks County Park, Groveland Township. Prospective members are invited for swimming, boating, waterslides, and planned family entertainment spon- sored by the Oakland County Parks Department. • July 12-14: the Double R Ranch, Smyrna, Mich. This park, located between Lansing and Grand Rapids, features horseback riding, river and pool swimming, canoeing, tubing and golf. • Aug. 9-11: Groveland Oaks County Park, Groveland Township. A prospective member weekend with swimming, fishing. • Labor Day Weekend — Aug. 30- Sept. 2: Riverside Park, Shipshewana, Ind. This park is situated along a river in the Amish area of Indiana. The weekend will include a buggy ride to the Yoder home for an Amish dinner and entertainment. There is also river swimming and interesting shops. • Sept. 20-23: Yogi Bear Park, Holly, Mich. Halloween campout with costume. parade and judging, hay rides, trick-or-treating and visits by Yogi and Boo Boo. • Oct. 11-13: Pine Ridge Campground, Birch Run. "Shop Till You Drop" weekend, with the camp- ground located between Birch Run and Frankenmuth. Fall color. The Shalom Campers formed almost 30 years ago to promote Jewish fellowship while enjoying camping and family activities. Members camp in tents to motor homes. At each campout, there is a Friday night oneg Shabbat and Saturday night potluck supper. Weekend activities include campfires, swimming, fishing, biking, hiking, golfing and relaxing.
