Plans Election
The Jewish Community Council of
Metropolitan Detroit announced its
slate of officers and candidates to fill
board of directors' seats. The elec-
tion will be held at council's annual
meeting 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, May
at Congregation Shaarey Zedek
Southfield.
Ann Zousmer-has been nominated
to serve for her second year as coun-
cil president and Steven G.
Silverman has been named as presi-
dent-elect. Vice presidential candi-
dates are Arline Gould and Wendy
Wagenheim. Micki Grossman is
nominated as secretary and Richard
Nodel as treasurer.
Nominees slated for three-year
terms on the board of directors are
James Alexander, Pearlena Bodzin,
Harriet Cooper, Sari Cicurel, Dan
Friedenzohn, David Gubow, Julius
Harwood, David Hecker, Florence
Herrmann, Larry Horwitz, Debbie
Levin, Sally Jo Levine, Steve
Schanes, Michael Serling, Ellie Slovis
and Gary Snyder.
Judy Silberg Loebl has been nomi-
nated for a two-year term on the
board of directors.
Additional nominations for any
elective office may be made by peti-
tion signed by at least five qualified
delegates. Only one nominee may be
named in each petition. Petitions
must be delivered to the council
office by May 3.
Jwv Spotlights
Brotherhood Night
World peace will be one of the concerns
of the Michigan Jewish War Veterans
and Ladies Auxiliary annual Brotherhood
Night 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 30, at the
JWV Memorial Home, 16990 W 12
Mile Road, Southfield.
The free event will feature and honor
three community leaders: Brenda
Lawrence, mayor of Southfield; Rabbi
Joseph Krakoff, Congregation Shaarey
Zedek; and Assad Yousid Kalasho, busi-
nessnian and benefactor. The Rev. Henry
Reinwald, representing the World War II
Four Chaplains Organization, originator
of the event, will narrate the history and
present this year's award.
Past Department Commander Milton
Klein is chairing the program that will
include comments from State JWV
Commander Robert Feldman and State .
Auxiliary President Elaine Zeron.
Light refreshments will be served by

PNAI (Parents of North American
Israelis) will host Joshua Berkovitz 1:30
p.m. Thursday, May 2, at the Max M.
Fisher Federation
Building in
Bloomfield
Township. He will
speak on "The Israel
Defense Forces:
Challenges of Today
and the Jewish
Future."
Berkovitz was born
and raised in Israel to Joshua
Berkovitz
Holocaust survivors.
As an IDF reservist,
he took part in the
Yom Kippur War. He has been involved
in Jewish education and is the president
of the Michigan Chapter of the Friends
of IDF.
The meeting is open to the communi-
