CARL LEVIN MICHIGAN United e States senate WASHINGTON, DC 20510-2202 February 1, 2002 To My Friends at the Jewish Community Center of Metropolitan Detroit West Bloomfield and Oak Park Campuses I am very delighted to offer my heartfelt congratulations to you as you celebrate 75 years of serving the community as the center of Jewish life and communal life, where everyone is welcome. Because of this commitment to the well-being of the people who live in Metro Detroit, the JCC has proved to be one of the area's great strengths. Through its many programs that have educated, uplifted, enriched, and supported families and visitors in the knowledge of Jewish values and culture, the JCC has built a lasting tradition of providing a place of excitement and delightful discovery for all who participate. This goodwill outreach extends to all ages, from the very young to the elderly, as well as to those with special needs. I have my own fond memories of the JCC. My Dad, Saul, was one of its early officers. I spent many hours of my youth trying, under the mentoring of my brother Sander, to become a star athlete. The failure to accomplish that is in no way a reflection on the JCC's wonderful facilities! Those experiences helped to anchor me in sound principles and broadened my understanding of family and community and the importance of contributing to the welfare of others. I know we can look to a future of great and continued achievement by the JCC and again congratulate you on 75 years of exceptional accomplishment. Warm regards, Carl Levin
