Temple Israel Plans Choral Fest

"The Joy of Jewish Music" will feature a
choral festival at Temple Israel's Harry
Laker Concert 4 p.m. on Sunday, April
28. Joining the cantors will be 120 voic-
es in choirs from
Chicago and
Toronto along
with the Zamir
chorale of Detroit
in a program of
favorite traditional
selections.
Cantor Richard
Cohn serves
North Shore
Congregation
Cantor Corrsin
Israel in Glencoe,
Ill., and is the
founding music
director of Kol
Zimrah. He is
president of the
American
Conference of
Cantors and serves
on the conducting
staff of the North
American Jewish
Cantor Maissner
Choral Festival.
Benjamin
Maissner is cantor and music director of
Holy Blossom Temple in Toronto as
well as conductor and music director of

Lachan. He is on the executive board of
the Cantors' Assembly (Conservative
movement) and is vice president of the
American Conference of Cantors
(Reform move-
ment).
Kol Zimrah,
the Jewish
Community
Singers, is a volun-
teer civic chorus
serving the
Chicago area
whose mission is
to sustain and
interpret the great
Cantor Orbach
tradition of Jewish
choral music.
Toronto's Jewish
Chamber Choir,
Lachan, is recog-
nized for its reper-
toire of Jewish-
Canadian corn-
posers.
Cantors Cohn
and Maissner will
be featured with
Cantor Cohn

Corrsin and
Harold Orbach of Temple Israel. For

Rachel, accepted a Solomon
Schechter Gold Award from
the United Synagogue of
Conservative Judaism at its
international convention in
February in Washington, D. C.
The synagogue was recognized
for excellence in the area of
social action programming.
