Steven Speilberg's Survivors of the
Shoah Visual History Foundation's
five-part foreign-language documen-
tary series, Broken Silence, debuts 7-8
p.m. Monday-Friday, April 15-19, on
Cinemax. The films, each created by
different filmmakers and originally
broadcast in their own countries, are
scheduled as follows: April 15 — Eyes
of the Holocaust (Janos Szasz,
Hungary) focuses on the experiences
of Hungarian survivors who were chil-
dren of the Holocaust; April 16 —
Some Who Lived (Luis Puenzo,
Argentina) weaves together the per-
sonal experiences of Holocaust sur-
vivors who now live in Argentina and
Uruguay; April 17 — Children From
camps in New York and attended a
special program at the Juilliard
School in New York City when he
was in high school.
Before completing music studies at
Oberlin College Conservatory in
Ohio, he dropped out and found
work. Over 12 year's, he played with
various types of bands and accepted
many other types of jobs as well.
"I wanted to learn about life and
found a rugged lifestyle, but music
really has been my calling," the cellist
says. "I returned to Oberlin in 1983
on a full scholarship and graduated in
1986. I went to grad school at
Roosevelt University in Chicago."
Bergman, who has been a piano
accompanist for dance groups, also
has worked as principal cellist with the
Chicago Civic Orchestra, assistant
principal cellist with the Springfield,
Hartford and Sacramento symphonies
