ONE STOP KOSHER MARKET
KOSHER CONVENIENCE
•
Jews have a kosher
supermarket they can call their
own, even as it serves the
larger community.
ou don't have to be Jewish to like shopping at One Stop
Kosher Market. The Southfield supermarket is fully stocked
with the food and household products everyone needs. But
for those who keep kosher, the store is a community treasure.
One Stop offers thousands of certified-kosher name brands, includ-
ing ultra-supervised items. The Council of Orthodox Rabbis /Vaad
Harabonim provides supervision of the supermarket's fresh meat.
Benji Silverstein is One Stop's managing owner. He and Shlomo
Goldman joined up to start the original all-kosher specialty store in
Southfield in September 1996, bringing in Henri Schmidt. With his
partners living out of town, Silverstein is in charge of running the
business.
One Stop's success brought a need to expand, for better service to
customers. Silverstein found the space he was looking for at Hiller's
Food Emporium, a former Shopping Center Market located in the
New Orleans Mall. The new One Stop Kosher Market opened for
business on Greenfield, south of 10 Mile Road, in November 2000.
At 15,000 square feet, the space is five times larger than at the old
location.

"We are the largest, cleanest and most selective, retail kosher super-
market in the Midwest," said Silverstein. He's also proud that One Stop
customers can do "in-and-out shopping with no delay, even during the
busiest times of year."
With piped-in recordings of popular Israeli and Jewish music, the
ambiance of this supermarket is like none other. Especially for the
kosher community, One Stop is a welcoming place where neighbors
often meet.
Always thinking of his customers, Silverstein said his was one of the
first kosher supermarkets to offer a shopper saver card. He anticipates
adding more technological improvements in the future to improve the
customer-friendly service. For example, a Web site for the store is under
construction.
