Detroit President Alan E. Schwartz,
called a meeting of a small group of
Jewish leaders to back Phil Slomovitz in
creating a new English-Jewish newspaper
for Detroit. It was felt that Detroit need-
ed what Phil had to offer.
Leonard and his lifelong advertising
partner Larry Michaelson liked the idea
and decided to put up some money
together with the others to get the paper
started. In a short time, the paper was a
success and they were all paid back.
Although Leonard Simons and Phil
Slomovitz are no longer with us, I am
sure they are watching from above and
are very proud of your accomplishments.
The Jewish News not only publishes
the news, but also helps make it. Best
wishes on your next 60 years in business.
