Neil Gorosh said his parents and
grandparents weren't Holocaust sur-
vivors. He became aware of Einstein
Lodge through his friendship with the
Kahans.
"Elie Wiesel said, 'We are all sur-
vivors,' and it made sense," Gorosh said.
"I've always believed it's our duty to
teach our children about the Holocaust
so it's not forgotten. That would be
another crime."
Nearly 50 people came to the
lodge's second event on March 16, a
Havdalah service and dinner at
Congregation Beth Ahm.
It was a nice social evening with
three generations represented and every-
one singing along like at Camp
Tamarack," said Jeff Kahan, whose son
Jeremy Nathan was born the day before.
Gorosh noticed at least a dozen kids
under bar mitzvah age. Joy Levran,
daughter of survivor Tom Adler, said the
atmosphere was laid-back and heimish
(warm). That's what will attract more
members to the lodge, she said.
"So far, we've been focused on having
our own events, and getting ourselves
organized into a cohesive group," said
Jeff Kahan, but other activities will be
planned to involve the survivors as well
as younger members.
The lodge is participating Sunday,
April 7, in the annual memorial tribute
to the martyrs of the Holocaust at the
Jewish Community Center in West
Bloomfield. Israeli victims of terrorism
will also be remembered. Jeff Kahan
said a tribute-style dinner "honoring
our parents" may happen this fall.
Its kind of cool to have a B'nai
B'rith chapter that goes from one gener-
ation to another," Levran said. "For me,
its very heartwarming to see that."
David Kahan's goal now is 300 new
lodge members. When were gone,"
he said, "wouldn't it be wonderful to
continue to commemorate the sur-
vivors by continuing their work
through B'nai B'rith and by socializ-
ing with each other?"
Berman said, "At first, our children
were too young to join. They had to
marry and start their own families.
Maybe the time is right now" ❑

Einstein Lodge, call David or Jeff

daytime, or the B'nai B'rith offices at
