Summer Institute

Adat Shalom Synagogue has planned a
Yom Haatzmaut family celebration on
Sunday, April 14, in anticipation of the
birthday of the modern State of Israel.
The event will begin with a variety of
program choices between 4:30 and 5:30
p.m. including storytelling, crafts, a
mini-Hebrew class for children, adult
and children's Israel dance sessions and a
talk on Israel by Rabbi Scout Bolton of
Hillel Day School of Metropolitan
Detroit.
At 5:30 p.m., the entire group will
gather for a dinner of falafel, Israeli
salad, veggie roll-ups, hot dogs, French
fries, pareve ice cream and beverages.
There is an $8 charge per adult and a
$6 fee for children ages 3-13. Send reser-

AJE Teaches
Beginner Hebrew

The Lifelong Learning Program of the
Agency for Jewish Education of
Metropolitan Dtroit is offering two new
beginner Hebrew classes starting on
Thursday, April 18, during the day and
in the evening.
A lunch and learn class taught by

Nira Lev, director of Hebrew programs
at AJE, will meeting at 12:15-1:15 p.m.
on Thursdays. Tziona Ragowsky will
teach the evening class at 7:30-9:30
p.m., also on Thursdays.
Both classes meet at the Max M.

Candles Mark
Yom HaShoah

More than 1,000 Temple Beth El fam-
ilies will be lighting special yellow can-
dles to mark Yom HaShoah Monday
evening, April 8, to commemorate the
Holocaust and the six million Jews
who perished.
The candles were distributed by
Temple Beth El's Brotherhood and
Family Circle as part of a program
sponsored by Conservative and
Reform synagogues through the
Federation of Jewish Men's Clubs in
cooperation with the National
American Federation of Temple
Brotherhoods. Hundreds of syna-
gogues and other Jewish organization
across North America are expected to
participate.
Temple Beth El will hold a special
Yom HaShoah presentation by members
of the Jewish Ensemble Theater 6:30
p.m. Monday, April 8, followed by a
service at 7:30 p.m. at the temple.
