Dr. Kirschenbaum
Heads Foundation

Dr. Stuart Kirschenbaum, former chair-
person of the Michigan Athletic Board
of Control, has been elected president
of the Michigan Jewish Sports
Foundation.
Other officers are Hiram A.
Dorfman, Howard Newman, Nate
Pollack and Gary Sallen, vice presidents;
Charles Rothstein, treasurer; and Daniel
Passman, secretary.
Also elected were seven new members
of the board: Dr. Steven Arbit, Allan
Bittker, Celia Bobrowsky, Jim
Grossman, Tut
Mentzel, Josh
Mondry and Adam
Rothstein.

Kirschenbaum
served under three
Michigan governors with the second
longest tenure in state history. His devo-
tion to boxing began as a youth partici-
pating in Golden Gloves in his native
Brooklyn, N.Y. He has also been a sanc-
tioned boxing judge working a dozen
world championship bouts.
He is vice chairman of the Michigan
Sports Hall of Fame, the first non-
African American serving as a director
of the International Afro-American
Sports Hall of Fame, and a member of
the board of advisers of the Athletes
With Disabilities Hall of Fame.
A graduate of Michigan State
University and the New York College of
Podiatric Medicine, Dr. Kirschenbaum
has devoted his professional career to
serving the health needs of the inner
city of Detroit.
The Michigan Jewish Sports
Foundation was founded in 1984 to
honor Jewish sports figures who have
distinguished themselves in Michigan.
Significant funds are raised annually
through its induction dinner, the Hank
Greenberg Memorial Golf and Tennis
Invitational and private contributions to
support charitable efforts. Some projects
include the Greenberg Oncology Fund
at the Detroit Medical Center, the
annual Fame Games for developmental-
ly disabled persons and the granting of
several college and camp scholarships
each year to local students.
