Bob Silverman, who always carried the
driver's license with his picture at well
over 400 pounds Bob's menu selec-
tions were among the largest.
Most unusual wild game dinners were
at A-Z Safari Land on Connors ... serv-
ing boiled boa constrictor, African lion
steak, African Lion steaks, and monkey
paws.
Many said that the best Italian food on
the East Side was at Aldo's on Kelly
Road, owned by Aldo Ottaviani.
Among the best menu selections was
at Great Dane on Northwestern
Highway ... with over 40 fine entrees
prepared by Doug Grech (Duglass
Duglass of TV note).
Tops for duck preparations was La
Rotisserie in the Hyatt Regency
Dearborn.
Most enhancing decor was probably at
the Old Mill on Dixie Highway, that had
six different dining areas from Tin Pan
Alley to a rough hewn English pub.
Among the best salad bars was the 12-
footer at Crabbie Joe's on Michigan Ave".
Few places with better oysters, especial-
ly the oysters a la Ernie, than at Joe
Muer's on Gratiot.
A bowl of some great chili was home
made by Ruth Levenberg ... at the
Anderson's Gardens owned by her and
hubby, Harry Levenberg.
Among the best fresh wholesome food
restaurants was Miriam Kottler's Miss
Miriam's Fast and Fresh Cafe in Troy.
One of the best places for baby perch
was Kingsley Inn on Woodward.
A big favorite in Chinese food was
Mountain King on East Maple, where
there were no American selections ... not
even chop suey ... Also Hoe Hoe Inn,
Chung's and Kow Kow Inn.
Among the best Mr. Everything at a
delicatessen was Hy Horenstein, who did
it all from short-order cook to counter
man to dishwasher, waiter and cashier at
Hy Horenstein's Deli on Dexter and on
10 Mile Road.
People said you couldn't beat the pasta
fagioli soup at Larco's on West
McNichols Road ... It was listed under-
pastas ... not soups.
One of the best memories of an
employee was by the hat check girl at
Sammy Sofferin's Wonder Bar on
Washington Blvd. ... She gave no checks
... not even to strangers ... and never
made a mistake.
Among the finer gourmet restaurants
with flaming dishes was Benchmark in
Michigan Inn on J.H. Hudson Drive.
Better steaks to be had was'a tossup
between Berman's, Russell's, Mayfield,
Clifford Bar, Embers at the Windsor
