Jewish Initiative
Hires Coordinator

Nitzana York is the new project coor-
dinator of the. Detroit Jewish Initiative
(DJI), a joint effort of the Jewish
Community Council and the Jewish
Federation of Metropolitan Detroit.
York will facilitate volunteer support
of the Northwest Neighborhood
Health Empowerment Center, City
Year Detroit, the
Southwest
Community
Connection and
the Detroit
Recreation
Centers Project.
"We're delighted
to have someone
in this position
that has such a

wealth of experi-
ence," said Arnie Mikon, who chairs
the DJI along with Zina Kramer. "We
know that Nitzana's energy and enthu-
siasm will be a tremendous asset to the
DJI and will help us to achieve the
goals we have set forth."
Most recently, York was the director
of Jewish Life and Learning at the
Jewish Community Center of
Metropolitan Detroit. She has served
as the local volunteer program manag-
er for Jewish Family Service and as a
teacher in Hebrew and Judaic studies
at Temple Emanu-El and other syna-
gogues.
The native of Israel is a graduate of
Haifa University, relocating to the
Detroit area with her family 14 years
ago.
Each DJI project offers opportuni-
ties for Jewish volunteers to work
hand in hand with Detroit residents
and organizations. Those interested in
learning more about volunteering with
