Metropolitan Detroit's formal dinner-
dance at 5:30 p.m. Sunday, April 14.
The dinner-dance celebrates the JCC's
75th anniversary and pays tribute to its
past presidents.
The celebration will be held in the
Marion and David Handleman Hall
and Auditorium at the D. Dan and
Betty Kahn Building of the JCC in
West Bloomfield.
The evening will include a video pres-
entation and a photographic exhibit
depicting the history of the JCC. It also
will feature music for dancing by
Nouveaute, cocktails, hors d'oeuvres and
a kosher catered dinner by Unique
Restaurant Corp. JCC board members
Florine Mark Ross and Ronald B. Rich
are dinner-dance chairs.
The yearlong 75th anniversary obser-
vance will conclude with a family carni-
val and birthday bash on June 9 at the
JCC's Jimmy Prentis Morris Building in
Oak Park. Chairs of that event are JCC
board members Malke Torgow and
David Morrison.
JCC past presidents Linda Lee and
Douglas Bloom are overall chairs of the
anniversary celebration.
Tickets for the April 14 dinner-dance
are $125 per, person. Admission is free
to the June 9 family carnival.

CPR Techniques
Help Children
Capt. Marc Harvey of the Southfield
Fire Department Will present a two-
hour demonstration of CPR techniques
that can be used on newborns to chil-
dren 3 years of age.
Sponsored by the National Council of
Jewish Women, Greater Detroit Section,
the demonstration will take place at 10
a.m. Wednesday, April 10, at the
NCJW office, 26400 Lahser Road,
Suite 100, Southfield.
The program is especially geared for
grandparents who care for grand chil-
dren on a full- or part-time basis.
Program co-chairs are Irma Glaser
and Diane P. Kaplan. Event chair is
Marlene Goodman.
Cost to participate is $5.

Writer Discusses
Environmentalism
Israeli writer and educator Jeremy
Benstein will speak at two different
programs Monday, April 1. His talks
will focus on the relationship between
Judaism and the environment as well
as current environmental concerns in
Israel.
At noon, he will speak on "Torah
and Teva: Jewish Perspectives on the
Environment and Environmental
Perspectives on Judaism," at 667
Student Center Building on the
Wayne State University Campus in
Detroit. The free program is co-spon-
sored by the Cohn-Haddow Center
for Judaic Studies, Hillel of Metro
Detroit and the Michigan Coalition
on the Environment and Jewish Life.
At 7 p.m., he will talk on
"Sustaining Zion: Addressing
Environmental Challenges in the
Land of Israel" at Temple Israel in
West Bloomfield. This program is pre-
sented by MI-COEJL and co-spon-
sored by Greater Detroit Hadassah,
the Jewish National Fund and Temple
Israel's Social Action Committee. The
program will provide a perspective on
how recent world events connect envi-
ronmental issuers with Israel's future.
A former resident of Southfield and
Toledo, Benstein is educational direc-
tor of the Abraham Joshua Heschel
Center for Environmental Learning
and Leadership in Tel Aviv.
He teaches ethics and other human-
ities courses at the Arava Institute of
Environmental Studies.
Hadassah Hosts
Amy Goldstein
Greater Detroit Chapter of Hadassah
will host Amy Goldstein as guest
speaker 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 16,
as members of the Keepers of the
Gate gather for brunch at the Fiddler
in West Bloomfield.
Goldstein, a Detroit native, is direc-
tor of the Israel, Zionist and interna-
tional affairs department of national
Hadassah.

breast cancer and gene therapy
