During the worship service, "A Sermon in Song: A Response in Music to the Events of Sept. 11," will be pre- sented. The Temple Kol Ami choir, vocal and instrumental soloists and read- ers will participate. A feature of these services, "Shabbat at Home," will also be included. An oneg Shabbat will follow. B'nai Moshe Hosts Religion Scholar Native Detroiter Mark Leuchter, a Ph.D. candidate at the Centre for the Study of Religion at the University of Toronto and adjunct professor of religious studies at Florida International University in Miami, will lead two special Mark Leuchter Torah study sessions as a guest teacher at Congregation B'nai Moshe Saturday, March 30. During Shabbat morning services, Leuchter will deliver a dvar Torah and sermon on "The Trans-Generational Experience of the Exodus." Following service and kiddush, he will lead a sec- ond shiur titled "The Man, the Myth, the Legend: Moses in the Biblical Tradition." Leuchter graduated from Hillel Day School of Metropolitan Detroit in 1987, is a 1990 alumnus of West Bloomfield High School, and graduated from the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor in 1994 with a bachelor of arts in religion. His work is in biblical literature, ancient Near Eastern religion and archaeology. Beit Midrash Program Starts . Young Israel of Oak Park member Steve Katz and Rabbi Reuven. Spolter devel- oped a program to nurture Jewish learn- ing in a community atmosphere. Begun last Ell as a way to provide community and shul members with an opportunity for learning and social interaction, the Beit Midrash program offers Jews froin all knowledge and observance levels a way to informally learn about the Torah texts and person- alities. Held on Monday nights for 10 weeks, the program offers classes in Gemarah, Tanach and Jewish thought. There is a registration fee. It is open to anyone, regardless of synagogue membership or prior educational experi- ence. The next segment will begin after Pesach and continue through June. The program also offers the oppor- tunity to learn one-on-one in a chavruta (study partner) situation and has been enhanced by the participa- tion of the Kollel Torah Mitziyon, whose members act as chavurot and teach selected courses.
