Hamburger was
blessed with a passion
for music and learn-
ing, a love of Israel, and an extra
helping of empathy for the less for-
tunate.
Mrs. Hamburger, who died March
14 at age 91, spent her lifetime put-
ting these passions into practice.
"Her empathy forged an iron will
to do something about the needs of
others. And, fortunately, she had the
means to do so," said her son, David
Hamburger of Bloomfield Hills.
A mentor for many classical musi-
cians, both in the United States and
in Israel, Mrs. Hamburger began
studying piano at an early age. She
continued playing nearly every day
until just before her death, her son
said.
West Bloomfield pianist David
Syme was among the speakers at her
funeral. "They both found solace in
the piano, and she greatly supported
his career," said her son.
