or whatever other refreshments they
bring along.
"They just have a ball, including
the parents," says Levy, adding that
the birthday boy or girl takes a
prominent spot up front and gets
lots of attention from the instructor.
As for kid-friendly food and other

He'll just look the other way.
If your child is enamored of the
silver screen, the Uptown Palladium
in Birmingham may have just the
ticket. Recommended for children
12 and younger, the party gets use of
the Uptown's private party room to
enjoy lunch and snacks, provided by
the theater, before viewing a current-
run movie.

the Uptown, who cautions that
reservations be made at least a

Marquis produces five children-
themed shows each year, including
such favorites as Jack and the
Beanstalk, Hansel and Gretel and

ater also boasts a small museum
showcasing puppets from around the
world.

High Tea

For those children, especially girls,
whose world gravitates toward play-
ing in mom's closet, consider a little
girl-themed tea party at the Franklin
Tea Cozy in Franklin. You can only
imagine the fun these Lilliputian
ladies-who-lunch will have playing

PuppetART, better known as
the Detroit Puppet Theater, is
one of those hidden gems we
wish we knew about sooner. A
40-minute performance is
held every Saturday after-
noon using a variety
of puppets crafted
