For your Wonderfui Patrofterge,

This is not a chain ... The name
taken by Dan and Al is that of their
friend, former Michigan State,
Washington Redskins and Pittsburgh
Steelers lineman Fran O'Brien.
Best sellers are the king crab legs
and Maryland crab cakes ... The clam
bucket is also a much-wanted item ...
with its clams, oranges, onions, garlic
butter all steamed together in a lus-
cious broth made from casino butter
and the juice inside the clam ... That
ultimate togetherness broth, by the
way, is a delicious favorite for bread
dunking.
The hand-battered coconut shrimp
and breaded shrimp (340,000 pieces)
are ordered with much regularity.
Over 10 different kinds of crab
selections are presented ... including
crab imperial made from 100 percent
back fin lump and baked ... You won't
find too many places that serve
Maryland Blue Crabs, which Fran
O'Brien's steams with Old Bay season-
ing or drenched in garlic butter sauce.
Dan is the son of Harriet and Bob
Dunsky ... He and wife, Jennifer, were
married this past July after a seven-
year courtship ... Jennifer worked at
Fox & Hounds, Lelli's and Clarkston
Cafe ... and is now with Dan, cordially
and smilingly waiting on tables and
booths five nights a week.
In the past four years, everything in
the kitchen has been replaced ... From
this 250 square feet of space also
comes 175,000 pounds of homemade
coleslaw which originally was creamy,
then changed to an oil and vinegar
consistency and is now back to being
creamy ... Not overly so, which is why
it is a big favorite.
From that kitchen, too, comes three
wonderful soups that are always on the
menu ... The full-bodied and delicious
clam chowder ... Maryland spiced crab
... and the "mixed soup" an excellent
combination of both.
Mostly fresh fish, pasta and seafood
are the lunch and dinner dining fares
... For convenience sake, there's a N.Y.
strip steak, a few chicken sandwiches
and four burgers.
But make no mistake about it, this
is definitely a seafood operation almost
all the way ... Monday-Friday, 11
a.m.-10 p.m.; Saturday, 3-11 p.m.;
Sunday, 3-9 p.m.
Fran O'Brien's Maryland Crabhouse
.is the only place I know of hereabouts
that has those great fried whole
Ipswich clams, a big Boston favorite ...
and is also one of the few places that
give real drawn butter and a sea sheller
crab tool.
