THE SOMERSET COLLECTION 248.643.3300 NEIMANMARCUS.COM

Throughout his 15-month battle with
Ewing 's sarcoma, Matt Lash's friends
and family have supported him by
always going one step beyond.
When Lash, a 21-year-old Michigan
State University student, lost his hair
to chemotherapy treatments, his
friends shaved their heads in solidarity
and donated
saved haircut
money to can-
cer research.
When he
participated in
the American
Cancer
Society's West
Bloomfield
Relay For Life
last June, walk-
ing on a newly
fitted prosthe-
sis after the
Matt Lash
amputation
of his left
leg, friends and family took turns on
the West Bloomfield High School
track for the entire 24-hour walk.
Nov, staff at Powerhouse Gym in
West Bloomfield are offering time and
sweat to help the Lash family defray
the cost of experimental inhalation
drug therapy he will take to treat the
cancer that has spread to his lungs.
The treatment is not covered by his
insurance.
"We decided to hold a Spin-A-Thon
to help raise money," says Jackie
Ruscitti, manager .of the West
Bloomfield club, which is sponsoring
the event 8 a.m. to noon Saturday,
March 23. "Matt's mom Roberta has
been a member here since we opened
10 years ago. We all know her. When
she told us about Matt, we decided
that spinning, which is a really hot,
great aerobic workout, might help."
A Spin-A-Thon is an indoor station-
ary cycling marathon. Bikers will ride
for donations toward a fund to help
offset Lash's medical costs, with each
rider guaranteeing a $100 minimum
donation per hour. With 25 bikes, the
four-hour event has a minimum poten-
tial of $10,000 in contributions. Forty
spots already have been reserved.
Unofficially spearheading the event
are Marc and Marcia Manson of
Farmington Hills, parents of Lash's
close friend Jeremy Manson.
Lash, who underwent lung surgery
in early March, has been a member of
