Jewry (AFGJ) is offering two tours of
Jewish Greece in June and July that
include Sephardic and Romaniote
Jewish roots.
Tour I,. from June 6-21, includes
the island of Corfu and the former
ghetto; Ioannina, the capital of
Romaniote Jewry; Kastoria, known
for its fur trade; Salonika, "La Madre
de Israel" of Sephardim; and Athens,
home of the Jewish Museum of
Greece. The cost is $2,500.
Tour II, from July 3-18, includes
Ioannina and the remnant of
Romaniote Jewry; Chania, Crete,
where the Romaniote synagogue Etz
Hayyim was recently restored; the
island of Rhodes, Kahal Shalom
Synagogue and the "Juderia;" the
island of Kos; and Athens, with visits
to both the Sephardic and Romaniote
synagogues and the Jewish Museum
of Greece. The cost is $2,500.
