Chicago Shaliach
Talks Aliyah

Many dream of it, even long for it,
but for . the committed and passion-
ate few who move to Israel, the
decision is very personal and indi-
vidual.
Since making his own life-chang-
ing move to Israel 33 years ago,
Maurice Singer, has helped guide
the path of hundreds on their
Jewish journey of aliyah.
An expert on immigration and
resettlement issues in Israel, Singer
currently s - erves in Chicago as the
shaliach aliyah (ambassador of
aliyah) for the Midwest region.
O _ n Morida0.rid Tuesday, March
11 and 12, Singer will help poten-
tial aim (immigrants) from the
Detroit area explore the practical,
social, economic and spiritual mat-
ters of making aliyah.
Singer readily admits, "Israel isn't
an easy place to live." Yet, the corn-
bination of demo-
cratic ideals, enter-
prising spirit, and
living among fellow
Jews still attracts
thousands of Jews
annually.
In spite of the
Maurice Singer
current challenges
and downward
trend in immigra-
tion, Singer remains optimistic:
"Peace and stability in the Middle
East will eventually happen when
Israel's Arab neighbors realize that,
in spite of everything, Jews from all
over the world, especially Western
countries, continue to make aliyah
and settle the land."
Singer's visit to Detroit is spon-
sored by the Israel and Overseas
Department of the Jewish
Federation of Metropolitan Detroit.
Those interested in scheduling an
individual appointment with Singer
can do so by calling Shoshana
Becker, Federation's shlicha (Israel
emissary), (248) 203-1462 or
e-mail: becker@jfmd.org
Singer will also be on hand for an
open discussion on current issues of
moving to Israel on Monday, March
11, at 7:30 p.m. at Congregation
Shaarey Zedek.
