Starting Thursday, Feb. 28, the
Boston-born, New York- and New
Jersey-raised actress will play another
no-nonsense New Yorker, in the new
NBC comedy Leap of Faith.
As Patty, the libidinous best friend
and co-worker of Faith (Sarah
Paulson), a young woman who calls
off her engagement and takes a leap of
faith back into the single life,
Edelstein is "a free-spirited, adventur-
ous, do-nothing-halfway kind of gal. I
get to be really dry and funny and sar-
castic, so it's fun," says Edelstein.
The show, conceived and executive
produced by former Sex and the City
writer/producer Jenny Bicks, invites
comparisons to the cable hit, includ-
ing one between Patty and Kim
Cattrall's man-hungry Samantha,
but Bicks insists that Patty is more
open to love and "not as hardened.
I think Samantha is more of a
caricature."
The 30-something Edelstein,
herself single and a celebrated
graduate of the mid-'80s New
York club scene, can never-
theless relate to the character.

Over the last few months, Julia Louis-Dreyfus has played herself on Curb Your
Enthusiasm, the quirky HBO sitcom starring Seinfild producer Larry David,
playing himself. On that show, she's fretted over what to do post-Seinfeld.
So far, David is the only Seinfeldian who's had a successful post-Seinftld
venture. Michael Richards and Jason Alexander have tanked in their sitcom
attempts.
Now it's Louis-Dreyfus' turn to try her luck. She'll be starring in her own
NBC sitcom, Witching Ellie, about the life of an L.A. club singer, a single
woman whose life will be examined in 22-minute real-time snapshots.
It debuts 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 26, on NBC.
