The district includes Birmingham, Bloomfield Hills, Bloomfield Township, Franklin, Bingham Farms, Beverly Hills, Orchard Lake, Keego Harbor and Sylvan Lake. "My campaign is a very grass- roots-based appeal to voters who desire to bring a fresh perspective to the service of government," said Brode, 47. Brode is both a lawyer and a regis- tered nurse. She is a mother to two 7-year-olds; the third triplet died at age 2. Brode cites as her top priorities: personal liberty and responsibility, a sensible tax system, increased domestic security, economic growth and education. She sees economic development and the environment as related. Michigan is home to vast amounts of fresh water, a very valuable asset, she says. "If protected, it will pro- vide lasting economic opportunities and a brighter future for our chil- dren." Brode encourages citizen partici- pation in her campaign. "I will take my bid for office directly to the vot- ers," she said. "We are a community of families. We live here, educate and raise our children here and many of us work or own businesses here." The daughter of a decorated World War II veteran, Brode is a Detroit native and lifelong resident of Michigan.
