Montgomery/JTA — The Alabama
Senate voted unanimously to require
every public school in the state to
post the Ten Commandments.
The Feb. 14 vote also called on the
state's public schools to display the
Magna Carta, Declaration of
Independence and Bill of Rights. The
measure still needs the approval of
the House and the governor.

Storm Over Film
On Wartime Pope

Berlin/JTA — A controversy erupted
in France over a poster for a new film
by director Costa-Gavrasthat that
deals with the silence of Pope Pius
XII in the face of the Holocaust.
The poster's design — a Christian
cross intermingled with a swastika
— has drawn strong criticism from
the French Catholic Church.
Interviewed on Feb. 14, the arch-
bishop of Paris claimed the design
"would arouse hatred." An alliance
of conservative Catholic and
extreme-right political groups plans
to file a suit in French court to have
the poster banned. Amen debuted at
the Berlin Film Festival on Feb. 13,
and will be released in France on
Feb. 27.

Racist Games
Are Proliferating

New York/JTA — Video games that
promote hate are proliferating on the
Internet. The games, aimed at
teenagers, are racist versions of popu-
lar games, according to a new report
issued by the Anti-Defamation
League.
In one game, players are challenged
to shoot "Jewish" rats racing between
canisters of Zyklon-B and Jewish
stars. In another, "Ethnic Cleansing,"
players shoot blacks and Hispanics
before entering a subway "where the
Jews are hiding."
