Sponsored by Skip Printing and Duplicating

Corky Siegel has concocted an irresistible new sound, a pure hybrid sound crossing

the blues and the classical to form a new musical strain, third stream blues—
chamber blues. Critics call it "Tchaikovsky meets Canned Heat!" Corky Siegel is a
recent winner of the Lila Wallace/Reader's Digest/Meet the Composer's national
award for chamber music composition and the Illinois Arts Council Fellowship Award
for Music Composition.

the work done is naturalism and real-
ism, which is: (a) a 19th century form,
and (b) better done by movies and tel-
evision.
"I like to ask myself what is the
thing that only that medium can do,
that only film can do."
A newcomer to the film medium,
Kaufman wrapped up post-production
for the HBO film of The Laramie
Project, scheduled to air 8 p.m. Saturday,
March 9. The film, which opened this
year's Sundance Film Festival, stars
Cristina Ricci, Laura Linney, Jeremy
Davies, Steve Buscemi, Janeane Garofalo
and Camryn Manheim. (In related pro-
gramming, NBC will air The Matthew
Shepard Story, a biographical movie
about the young Laramie, Wyo., college
student, 9-11 p.m. Saturday, March 16.)
"I am a firm believer in the integrity
of the medium [of film] and that there
are certain things only theater can do
well," says Kaufman.
Despite his widening reputation,
Kaufman says he asks himself every
day these central questions: "Is theater
something that I can participate in?
Can we still have a national dialogue
in the theater about national events?"
So far, his answers to both questions
have been a resounding "Yes.
