Executive Chef Roger Sutton came to
Peabody's six months after opening ...
and after six years was also made a part-

Two of the employees have been at
Peabody's since it opened ... Andrea
Crawford, bar-gal and waitress ... and
Frances Gnaster, who started busing
tables, then was a waitstaff member ...
and now works in the kitchen full time
prepping salads, etc.
One of the managers, in charge of
wines and liquors at Peabody's, Anita
Wilkop, has been there 15 years ... Her
mother, Nellie Van Daal, had been one
of Jim and Susan's original waitpersons
and managers.
Those luscious homemade pastries
that Peabody's is noted for ... the
caramel Granny apple pie, strawberry
shortcake, and so many more, are the
fine work of Anna Mart, its pastry chef.
Wilma Peabody, Jim's wife, is a regular
at the restaurant ... Although critical of
many things ... is widely approving of
the way her daughters are running
Peabody's today.
That they have continued a family
dining tradition in wonderful fashion is
without saying ... Jim Peabody left his
Birmingham meeting place in good
hands.
OPENING NIGHT for Giorgio's
Diner in Sugar Tree Shopping Center,
Orchard Lake Road north of Maple, was
a big evening for owner George
Golematis, who greeted many familiar
faces at the second of two Giorgio's
restaurants.
The first, on Greenfield and Lincoln
in Oak Park, Giorgio's Counterside
Gourmet, has been a favorite of many.
Giorgio's newly opened operation is a
larger and more modernistic version of
the Oak Park diner ... seating 50 to Oak
Park's 34 ... with 18 counter stools, six
booths and a four-top table ... The West
Bloomfield locale has a well-lit atmos-
phere, sea of stainless steel cleanliness
behind the open counter and cooking
area, fully-mirrored wall, etc.
A lot of people from West Bloomfield
who didn't mind traveling to Oak Park,
are thrilled at Giorgio's now also being in
their back yard ... serving those large, full
