Beth El Hosts
Learning Weekend

In celebration of Brotherhood
Shabbat, the Temple Beth El
Brotherhood will host a weekend of
learning Feb. 22-24.
Themed "Men and Shabbat," the
weekend will begin with services
7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 22. Doug
Barden, executive director of the
North American Federation of
Temple Brotherhoods and the Jewish
Chautaqua Society, weekend scholar,
will speak on "Brotherhood in the
21st Century."
On Saturday, Feb. 23, Barden will
speak at a 12:30 p.m. luncheon fol-
lowing services. His discussion will
be on "Education, Spirituality and
Religion in Brotherhood." The
weekend will conclude with an 11
a.m. brunch on Sunday, Feb. 24.
The topic will be "Visions and
Programming for Brotherhood
Leadership."
All three programs are open to the
community. There is a charge for
both the Saturday lunch and Sunday

Melavah Malkah

Rabbi James Gordon, rabbi emeritus of
Young Israel of Oak Park, will be guest
speaker at a melavah malkah (meal at
Shabbat's end) at 8 p.m. Saturday, Feb.
16, at the synagogue. He will speak on
"The Holiness
of Eretz Israel
and the
Sanctity of
Jerusalem. ),

years ago, was
the spiritual
leader of
Young Israel
of Oak-
Rabbi James Gordon
Woods for 23
years. He is a
founder of Yeshivat Akiva and was
active with the Jewish Federation of
Metropolitan Detroit and the Council
of Orthodox Rabbis. The event is co-
sponsored by the Young Israel Council
of Metropolitan Detroit and Young
Israel of Oak Park. It is open to the
community at no charge.
