Pathologist Talks
Medical Mysteries

Jewish physicians, medical students,
healthcare workers and their guests are
invited to a dinner and discussion on
"Famous Medical Mysteries" 7 p.m.
Thursday, Feb. 28, at the Jewish
Community Center in West
Bloomfield.
The speaker will be forensic patholo-
gist Dr. Werner Spitz. The event is
sponsored by the Maimonides Society
of the Jewish Federation of
Metropolitan Detroit's Community
Outreach and Education Department
and the Campaign Department.
Drs. Linda Bolton, Robert Kelman
and Stanford Singer are chairs of
Maimonides Society. Joel Kahn, Jeffrey
Maisels and Maurice Opperer are chairs
of Maimonides and Campaign.
Dr. Spitz has practiced forensic
pathology for 46 years. He has served as
deputy chief medical examiner for the
state of Maryland and chief medical
examiner for Wayne County. He is the
medical examiner for Macomb County.
The Maimonides Society seeks to
strengthen the bonds of those in the
medical field with the Jewish commu-
nity and Israel.
Reservation deadline is Friday, Feb.
22. There is a $30 per-person charge
with a minimum individual gift of
$500 to Federation's Annual Campaign
2002 (to be paid by Dec. 31) required

administered by Jewish Apartments and
Services and Jewish Vocational Services,
and ElderLink, the community's net-
work of services that affords a continu-
um of care for older adults.
Mrs. Schlesinger, a native of Detroit,
was married to her second husband,
Andy, for 28 years. Together, they
owned and ran the Doty Tool Company
for 15 years.
Although they were snowbirds, the
Schlesingers have always had an affinity
to Michigan, and Andy still owns a
home in West Bloomfield.
She was a devoted member of Temple
Israel in West Bloomfield and later
Temple Beth El in Boca Raton, Fla. She
also dedicated her time to the Palm
Beach County Federation and the
Kravitz Center in Palm Beach.
There are a variety of beneficial
planned giving and endowment oppor-
tunities available through the Jewish
Federation of Metropolitan Detroit.
Charitable Remainder Trusts and Lion
of Judah Endowments are but two
examples of philanthropic funds that
create a family legacy while significantly
reducing estate and income tax burdens.

Lowe, (248) 203-1461.
