Shelly Goodman
Taub, R-
Bloomfield Township, has
announced her candidacy
for the Michigan House of
Representatives, District
40.
The district consists of
Bloomfield and Southfield
townships, the cities of
Birmingham, Bloomfield
Hills, Sylvan Lake, Keego
Harbor and Orchard Lake
Village and the villages of
Beverly Hills, Franklin and
Bingham Farms.
The seat is currently
held by Rep. Patricia
Godchaux, R-
Birmingham, who is term
limited. Godchaux will seek
the 13th State Senate District
seat now held by Sen. Shirley
Johnson, R-Royal Oak.
Taub has been a county commis-
sioner for 10 years, chairing various
committees and task forces, includ-
ing the finance committee. As chair
of the suggestion program commit-
tee, she helped save the county $3
million through employee sugges-
tions.
She now chairs the Senior
Summit and Jail Diversion task
forces and serves on the Tri-County
Environmental Task Force, Oakland
County Library Board, Oakland
County Parks and Recreation
Commission, United Way Oakland
Advisory Board and Literary Task
Force.
Taub, a resident of Bloomfield
Township, is a graduate of the
University of Michigan and a former
elementary school teacher. She has
managed the family business for 30
years. Her family consists of Dr.
Steve Taub, a retired family physi-
cian; children Adam, Jennifer and
Drew; and grandchildren Samantha
and Emily.
Since 1997, Taub has been a
member of the Bloomfield Hills
School District's Youth Guidance
Board. Gov . John Engler recently
appointed her to a two-year term on

the Michigan Higher Education
Assistance Authority.
She has chaired the Michigan
Association of Counties Health and
Human Services Committee and
now serves on the National
Association of Counties Human
Services Committee.
Taub said she is especially proud
of her role as chair of Michigan's
first Children's Summit. "This was a
very goal-oriented, public/private
partnership, which set out priorities,
accomplished them and, when we
were finished, the program ended,"
she said.

Knollenberg, R-Farmington Hills.

ground and experience we need in
Lansing," he said. "She will chit the
ground running', and continue the
tradition of outstanding representa-
