"Men would tip
the hostesses to gain
admission. They
were seen stuffing
$50 bills into the
bodices of the host-
esses as tips.
"I recall seeing dad undressing and he
had adhesive tape all around his chest.
He had apparently sustained a broken
rib trying to calm an upset customer.
"Mom noticed a very fashionably
dressed woman at the next table open
her purse and deposit one of the special
copper Moscow Mule mugs therein.
`Well, that does it' the woman smugly
announced. 'That's my even dozen.
She was ready to leave. Mom signaled
dad over and whispered to him. He
had a bill prepared for a dozen of the
mugs and presented it to her husband.
It was paid immediately.
"One of my father's proudest
moments was when he became a mem-

had a talented pianist at the piano bar.
When Greco came in he played
Flamenco tunes for him. Encouraged
and inspired, Greco jumped up and
danced for all of us, a great thrill espe-
cially for those of us seated at the piano
bar itself
"Zero Mostel was in town. The
Caucus Club iiad invested in Fiddler on
the Roof. It was an 'angel.' Mostel closed
theplace up that night, sitting, drink-
ing and doing what celebrity show
types do into the early morning hours.
As the busboys began closing one end
of the LCH, Mostel observed the typi-
cal upended placement of the chairs
onto the tables. In a flash, he upended
himself and imitated a chair, balanced
on the edge of a table, feet in the air
and head down to the floor. Picture
that, no mean feat for even a slender
man.
