The Rev. John Nowlan of St.
Hilary's Roman Catholic Church in
Redford will offer an interfaith
overview of the world's struggle for
peace.
A musical performance will be given
by the Greater New Mt. Moriah
Baptist Church choir, drummers and
singers from All Saints Church in
Pontiac and Sudanese drummers from
St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Lansing.
A reception following the service will
include informational tables from many
local religious and service groups.
Members of the Michigan World
Sabbath committee will join members
of the Canadian interfaith community
in hosting a Canadian World Sabbath
event at Vancouver's Christ Church
Cathedral on Saturday, Feb. 3.
"Religious terrorists may be capable
of destroying themselves and thousands
of others while blaming the action on
God," the Rev. Reinhart says.
"Through the World Sabbath, we call
on religious leaders in every land to
condemn the sin of religious persecu-
tion, terrorism and war.
The Jan. 26 service, open to all, will
remember the victims of the Sept. 11
attacks.
"This will be a night to pray for all
victims of religious persecution and
war," the Rev. Reinhart says. "This will
be a night to commit ourselves to over-
come the barriers of hostility and fear
that separate so many of the world's
nations and religions ... to speak out
against terrorism, religious persecution
and intolerance ... to speak out for
peace."
