The interior was all my
husband's design, including the lamp
posts and wrought iron railing to sim-
ulate an outdoor French cafe.
"Saul also prevailed upon Bob
Gorelick of Gorelick's Gallery, to hang
some of his oil paintings on the walls
of Anatole's. They were beautiful and
lent elegance to the restaurant. Of
course, they were for sale with all the
proceeds going to Bob.
"Joe Cartwright was a patient of my
husband's and an excellent chef.
However, Joe did not have the necessary
money to open a restaurant, and my
spouse had faith in him. So Saul provid-
ed the funding. He had a number of
investments, and he thought, 'Why not •
a restaurant?' It was the designing of the
place that appealed to him. He also
designed the medical clinic in Warren
and our home at Lake Angelus.
"Joe was responsible for running the
restaurant while Saul watched over the
finances.
"My husband had a very busy prac-
tice, and after two or three years, he
decided to leave the restaurant busi-
ness in Joe's hands. Joe was such a
good chef."
From ... Allan Gale ... "A Chaldean
acquaintance of mine sent me this bit
of information in a recent e-mail: 'I
hear that La Fendi of West
Bloomfield, Middle-Eastern restau-
rant, caters to a Jewish crowd for an
early dinner on weeknights (they even
play Jewish music) and then later, to a
Chaldean crowd (Chaldeans tend to
have dinner much later) with
Chaldean music, etc.' "
From ... Phyllis Bernstein ... "In
your article dated Dec. 21, 2001, you
mentioned seeing a sign in Cabo San
Lucas regarding a local restaurant
there by the name of Senor
Greenberg's Mexicatessen.
"It may interest you to know that
the owner, David Greenberg, is the
son of former Detroiters, Ron
Greenberg and Hedi Cohen
Mishkind. Both graduated from
Central in June of 1957."
