Cancer Caregivers Get Spiritual Help The Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute will present a new version of its faith-based spiritual support group, N.'siah (A Journey). This time the support group is not intended for Jewish cancer patients — but rather for their family members and caregivers. The group will meet 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesdays for six weeks beginning Feb. 12 at the Institute's Oakland Regional Office on 24601 Northwestern Highway east of Evergreen in Southfield. During the course of the group, par- ticipants will: • Explore how religious beliefs and Jewish practices can be used as strategies to help both patients and family mem- bers feel more in control of the cancer experience; • Explore personal spirit-building with hands-on experiences; • Identify the tools available within Judaism — such as one's belief in God, prayer and ritual — that can provide comfort, hope and coping and reframe negative thoughts into positive ones; • Be supported by others living through a similar experience.
