Arden Courts Alzheimer's Assisted Living...

"It seems like Arden Courts was especially designed just

for my wife."

Just ask Frank Faga...

"In 1995, I noticed a dramatic change in
my wife. She was an avid reader, a great
organize?, a law firm bookkeeper, and a
great homemaker. I noticed changes that
she was no longer reading, adding num-
bers, and was ,very disorganized. -

Frank's wife was diagnosed
with Alzheimer's disease. After
several years of caring for her, he
realized he needed help - that led
him to Arden Courts.

now feel

I have the freedom to contin-
- ue with my life, work with the church,
and have the peace of mind that my wife
is being very well cared for in the safest
and most secure environment possible.

I cannot emphasize enough how happy I
am with the decision I made to place my
wife in Arden Courts. I visit my wife
daily and still give her that good night
kiss every night.

Sandy Nathan
of
Birmingham, a
previous
Orchards'
chair, said,
"NCJW
trained volun-
teers to do
home visits
and evalua-
tions of poten-
Beryl Winkelman
tial foster par-
ents. After
children were placed, we continued to do
home visits."
Orchards provided the model for Orr
Shalom in Israel, whose leaders participat-
ed last year in the Gerald L. Levin Job
Welfare Exchange. Sponsored by the
Jewish Federation of Metropolitan
Detroit and the Partnership 2000
Committee, the Israelis visited Orchards
and other Jewish agencies in metro
Detroit and met legislators in Lansing.
Co-chair Norris is an enthusiastic
Orchards board member. "The Orchards
staff have really made a commitment" to
children, she said, but "appropriate find-
ing is needed so Orchards can continue
to thrive for the community"
Proceeds from the gala will fund the
agency's programs for inner-city baseball,
after-school arts and a summer arts day
camp, she said. Donations will enhance
the family preservation program, which
seeks to keep families together through
counseling, assistance and education, so
children won't require foster care or adop-
tion.
Norris is pleased that Orchards can
give children hygiene kits and "tote bags
for their possessions, so their things are
packed with dignity, as they go from
place to place."
Starting Orchards, Binkow said, "was
an acknowledgement that these children
who were in trouble were the responsibil-
ity of the Jewish community"
Added Norris, "This is all about the
kids." 1-1

The "Champions for Children"
black-tie gala, a benefit for
Orchards Children's Services in
Southfield, will be held 7 p.m.-
midnight Saturday, Jan. 26, in the
Atheneum Suites Hotel ballroom
in Detroit's Greektown. The $125
tickets include a cocktail reception,
dinner, awards presentation and
afterglow. For tickets, call Nedd-
Worldwide Public Relations, (313)
567-6333.
