Slates Speaker

The Jewish Coalition for Public
Education will hold its second program
of the year 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 5,
featuring Superintendent Thomas D.
Watkins at the Max M. Fisher
Federation Building in Bloomfield
Township.
Watkins will provide an update on
Michigan's Public Schools' plans for
improved accountability and a discus-
sion on special education. Watkins
assumed the role of Michigan's superin-
tendent of public instruction in April
2001. He is a strong advocate for quali-
ty, public education for all young people.
His diverse background includes leader-
ship roles in profit, non-profit and pub-
lic sectors.

Dream Lottery For

The Women's Campaign and Education
Department of the Jewish Federation of
Metropolitan Detroit will sponsor the
2002 Israel Dream Lottery for college
students who wish to travel to Israel for
summer, semester or year-long pro-
grams.
Up to 25 awards of $1,000 and
$2,000 will be made to winners at a
March 19 drawing.
