An Evolving Mission

The future of the JCC is a continuous
evolution, says David Sorkin, JCC exec-
utive director. "Our mission is to corral
the Jewish community, to create, to
build and strengthen a community feel-
ing. And that goes beyond the Jewish
community. We're a community center
and there are non-Jewish activities, too.
"We decided to create a . cyber neigh-
borhood at the Center," he adds.
"This is not only about computers.
But when we designed the lobby, it's
like the center of the neighborhood."
Milk & Honey of West Bloomfield, a
kosher restaurant where people can
gather, will be part of the Kahn
Building beginning in February and,
starting next spring, the Harry and
Jeanette Weinberg Center for Jewish
Education will be built off the lobby.
The interactive Jewish educational facil-
ity will include the Ford Center for
Jewish Exploration and Discovery and
the Hermelin/ORT Technology Center.
"Whatever your background,"
Sorkin says, "our desire is to expose
people to the wonders of Judaism, to
further your health and culture, and
then to connect you and expose you to
