West Coast
ADL Chief Fired
Los Angeles/JTA ā Jewish leaders in
Los Angeles are dismayed by the fir-
ing of the ADL's local representative.
The dismissal of David Lehrer "does
not compute," said Zev Yaroslaysky,
a leading Jewish politician in Los
Angeles.
The firing of one of the most
enduring and popular Jewish profes-
sionals in the Los Angeles area
pointed to tensions between national
headquarters in New York City and
independent-minded branches on
the West Coast, frictions that have
afflicted other national Jewish organ-
izations, sources said. For its part,
the ADL said in a statement that the
group is "undertaking steps to
strengthen our leadership and devel-
opment efforts" in Los Angeles.
