Israel Allows
P.A. Reception
Jerusalem/JTA — Israel allowed a
Palestinian holiday reception in east-
ern Jerusalem on Sunday.
Israeli Public Security Minister Uzi
Landau found no reason to block
senior Palestinian official Sari
Nusseibeh from holding the
Christmas reception for foreign diplo-
mats and church leaders, deeming it a
"private event." Last week, Landau
prevented Nusseibeh from hosting a
reception for the Muslim Eid al-Fitr
holiday, saying it was an attempt to
assert Palestinian sovereignty in Israel's
capital.
Israel also blocked Palestinian
leader Yasser Arafat from going to
Bethlehem for Christmas observances.
