FINE CHINESE DINING

9intites, Tau 7)-a,

wonderful adventure in fine dining" - Danny Raskin

Featuring Gourmet Oriental Cuisine

In 1976, three years after first
singing in public, Olivor recorded
her debut album, First Night, for
Columbia Records. Stereo Review
named it album of the year.
In 1979, Olivor and Johnny
Mathis performed their Oscar-nomi-
nated duet, "The Last Time I Felt
Like This," at the 51st annual
Academy Awards telecast. She fol-
lowed this success with four more
albums — Chasing Rainbows, Stay the
Night, The Best Side of Goodbye and

In Concert.
Headlining New York's Carnegie
Hall and Los Angeles' Greek Theatre
are among her best-remembered expe-.
riences. She also reminisces about TV
programs — one with Charles
Aznavour
and many talk shows. In
Detroit, she performed at the Gem
Theatre and the State Theater.
"The hiatus I took started out as six
months, but it was a long while before
I decided I wanted to finish the prom-
ise I had inside of me," says Olivor.
Her battles with stage fright were
largely overcome by time with friends
and by relaxing with her hobbies of
fencing, graphology and astrology.
"The management I had before the
hiatus scheduled me at Carnegie Hall
after only two years of singing in
cabarets, and that was just too much.
I believe in taking foundations one at
a time, and I also believe that each
experience builds on another until
there is enough to create a spring-
board to the next level."
Olivor says the pressure imposed
by what she calls "the quantum leap"
in her career was what caused her to
stop performing.
"I decided I would rather keep my
sanity than my career, but in leaving
my career for a time, I think I kept
borh," she says.
When Olivor first returned to
singing, she started out with live per-
formances and then moved on to the
first recording of her new life —
Love Decides. The CD includes two
songs she helped write
"However
Dark the Night" and "In the
Moment."
Many of Olivor's songs express
hope that there is a better and more
fruitful time ahead as people come to
a realization of who they are and
where they belong.
"Longing for change means open-
ing doors everywhere," the re-emerg-
ing singer says. "Whatever is done on
the outside has to be done on the
inside, and I did a lot of inside
work." ❑
