• But the bright blue lights
on the 42-inch Star of David
belonged to Dudley and
Karen Meabrod of Keego
Harbor. No, they weren't con-
verting, Dudley had to tell his
friends. The star was in honor
of his dear neighbor, Dr.
Daniel Leo Foxman, who died
last month.
"It's very, very meaningful to
me," said Foxman's widow,
Miriam, who lived there with
her husband for the past 51
years. "Every night the star

Meabrod, a cabinet maker,
had made it for another neighbor who died.
"He grabbed it and put it in his garage," said Meabrod, who has
lived across from the Foxmans for 14 years. Meabrod told Foxman
he'd make him a "real star" out of that one. So when the Foxmans
went to Florida, his neighbor made the wooden star into a six-point-
ed version and added blue lights to it for the coming season.
Dr. Foxman, however, never saw the remodeled gift. He went into
the hospital when he returned to Detroit and didn't ever come
home.
At Foxman's funeral, the Meabrods asked Miriam Foxman if she
minded if they put the star up on their lawn — the only decorations
they would use this year.
Foxman was touched.
"I look forward to seeing the Magen David shining brightly every
night, along with the other decorations on the block," she said. ❑
