dance productions and orchestra that
deserve a lot of standing ovations.
Cruise Director Tim Seivert is also
the show time emcee ... and a very
good one who relaxes the audience
with poised warm-up humor ... like
his comical questions asked by cruise
passengers ... "How does electriciry get
to the ship after it leaves port?" ... "Is
the complimentary shuttle free?" ...
"Do the waiters live on the ship?" ... A
puzzled passenger staring at thousands
of snapshots displayed in the ship's
photo gallery, asking, "How will I
know which photos are mine?" ...
"What do you do with the ice carvings
after they've melted?" etc.
Among Tim's favorites is about the .
magician working on a cruise ship in
the Caribbean. The audience would be
different each week, so the magician
allowed himself to do the same tricks
over and over again. There was only
one problem, the captain's parrot saw
the shows each week and began to
understand how the magician did
every trick. Once he understood, he
started shouting in the middle of the
show: "Look, it s not the same hat" ...
"He's hiding the flowers under the
table" ... "Hey, why are all the cards
the ace of spades?" The magician was
furious but couldn't do anything. It
was, after all, the captain's parrot. One
day the ship ran into trouble, and
sank. The magician found himself
alone with the parrot, adrift on a piece
of wood in the middle of the ocean.
They stared at each other with hate,
but did not utter a word. This went
on for a day and another and another.
After three days the parrot said, "OK,
I give up. Where's the boat?"
Social hostess Catherine Battle's wish
ro see the world is a big plus for Royal
Caribbean International ... The hostess,
born in Sheffield, England, is a major
asset whose pleasantness oozes onto the
guests who enjoy her gracious ways.
Vision of the Seas Captain Nikolaos
Antalis is handsome, very knowledge-
able and personable ... He tells of the
cruise ship guest who sat down next to
a gent and said, "Say, you look like my
fourth husband." ... "Why, how many
husbands have you had?" ... "Three,"
answered the woman ... Greek God
Captain Antalis has never been married.
The Mexican Riviera we visited was
an interesting experience ... Last time
we went there, it rained the entire
cruise and nothing ashore could be
seen ... This time the weather was per-
fect except for one day ... It rained
again, of course ... Of the three ports
visited, Mazatlan, to us, seemed to
have more to see ... Only thing we
