Birmingham, Mich., is now a worldwide movement. What

The Bible contains a number of provocative, morally
challenging narratives. Join in a discussion of how these
stories relate to our modern lives.

In the first two weeks of the course, Dr. David Magidson will
show us the spiritual and secular sides of the Jewish movie.
Just as books were the repository of culture for all from the
13th through the 19th Centuries, for the 20th (and 21st) it is
film that both tells us who we are and reflects on our identity.
In the second two weeks of the course, Evelyn Orbach will
show us how the arts can stop hate. Theatre can be a powerful
tool to aid us in banishing hatred from the community.
Students will learn of the way theater can make a difference
in our lives.

An Exploration of Uniquely Jewish Spirituality

As fellow journeyers, we will explore ideas about the Jewish soul
and. G-d's complexity. Come learn a uniquely Jewish spiritual
vocabulary and some of the set of Jewish spiritual practices that
exist in our tradition. This is a course for those who want to
deepen their spiritual connection to time honored customs and
mitzvot. The sessions will be based on Jewish texts (no Hebrew
necessary) and offer some practicum, including Jewish
meditation practices and gathering intention-kavannah
practices for Jewish rituals and everyday living.

The Kaddish Minyan: The Impact on Ten Lives
(TH63)
The Kaddish, the traditional prayer for mourners, evokes a
stronger emotional response in Jews than any other Jewish
prayer. Though this practice is unique to the Jewish tradition,
this class has universal applications in its expressions of
individual journeys toward affirmation in the midst of loss.
The lessons taught reveal how one can rebuild and reaffirm
even in the midst of personal grief.
