Rosenthal Receives Leadership Award
The Detroit Chapter of the
American Society for Technion-Israel
Institute of Technology awarded
Marta Rosenthal the Alex J. Etkin
Leadership Award in recognition of
her chapter leadership.
Alex J. Etkin, Technion Guardian
and member of the national board of
regents and international board of
governors, was a founding member
of the Detroit chapter, was awarded
an honorary fellowship by the
Technion in 1995. With his wife,
Toby, he established the A.J. Etkin
International Seminar on Strategic
Planning in Construction
Companies at the Technion.
Judy and Doug Etkin, Mr. and
Mrs. Etkin's son and daughter-in-law,
endowed this award in honor of their
father's commitment to securing the
future of ATS, the Technion and
Israel.
Rosenthal is a chapter vice presi-
dent and has co-chaired the strategic
planning committee as well as the
Technion Leadership Council. She
co-chairs the Einstein Award Event
Committee with her husband,
Benjamin, and Doreen Hermelin.
As he presented Rosenthal with
the award, Doug Etkin said, "Marta
embodies the values of my father in
her caring for the Technion and her
commitment to its important work
supporting the State of Israel."

MJI Holds Open House
Michigan's only four-year fully accred-
ited Jewish college will host an open
house, 1 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 16.
The Michigan Jewish Institute,
located at 25401 Coolidge, five blocks
north of I-696, in Oak Park, special-
izes in preparing its graduates for com-
puter and business careers in a Jewish
learning environment. Its other pro-
grams include a joint degree in educa-
tion, offered with Marygrove College.
For high school students, MJI offers
beginning and advanced Hebrew and
Holocaust education classes at
Andover High School in Bloomfield
Hills. Qualified students can receive
high school credit for these classes.
The open house will include tours of
the Oak Park facility and a chance to
meet current students, graduates, fac-
ulty and administration. A video pres-
entation about MJI, its degree pro-
grams and plans for a new campus in
West Bloomfield will be shown.
In addition, a technical recruiter
from the Detroit-based Gale Research
will speak about job prospects and
requirements.
Prospective college students who
would like a formal program-planning
meeting with Dr. Hershel Gardin,
dean of students, are encouraged to
forward high school and college tran-
scripts in advance.
