Schlock Rock keeps the faith with a syncopated beat.

on't expect to hear. "Nava
Nagilah" or "I Have A Little
Dreidel" at a concert by
Schlock Rock.
Instead, the Israeli-based group performs
original Jewish rock songs, along with its
own arrangements of American oldies. No
more "Under the Boardwalk" — with
leader Lenny Solomon at the keyboard,
you're dancing to "Under the Chuppah."
Another remade classic is "Born in the
U.S.A.," which becomes "Making Aliyah
Today."

The band, whose purpose is to spread
Jewish pride, identity and awareness, per-
formed for more than 560 people Nov. 17
at Yeshivat Akiva. Audience members,
young and old, danced in the aisles and up
on the stage
The concert was only one of the activities
offered by the Southfield school to the
community at large. Next up is a Chanukah
candle-lighting, scheduled for 4:45-7 p.m.
Sunday, Dec. 9. The activity is free, bat
