ithout a Jewish state,
there is no Jewish
future. And make
no mistake: Israel will dispose
of the terrorism threat at its
doorstep.
"And the only way to defeat
terrorism is to
defeat the ter-
rorists," said
Binyamin
Netanyahu, for-
mer Israeli
prime minister,
speaking from
Netanyahu
the pulpit
before a capacity
crowd at Congregation
Shaarey Zedek in Southfield
on Tuesday night. He was the
headline speaker at a Jewish
Federation of Metropolitan
Detroit fund-raiser.
Recounting Israel's history
and its need to destroy the
root causes of terrorism, Bibi
gave Jewish Detroit a
moment to rally behind Israel
following last weekend's
shocking terrorist attacks on
the streets of Israel.
Israel is at war and must be
committed to victory now, he
said.
"You cannot cement mili-
tary victory unless you secure
it with political victory. You
cannot cement political victo-
ry unless you secure it in the
court of public opinion. And
you cannot secure it in the
court of public opinion unless
you secure in with a just
course of justice."
That's Israel challenge: per-
suading the world of its just
cause against the backdrop of
militant lies.
With Chanukah beginning
on Sunday night, Bibi asked
each listener to light a candle
to help secure Israel's future.
"Go out into the communi-
ty," he said, "and light a can-
dle for truth. Truth will defeat
lies."
