Gendloffs decided that the Dorothy
and Peter Brown Program was the best
choice for Mr. Gendloff's combination

"It's a heimish place," said Mr.

"My mother wakes up every morning,
gets dressed, puts on her makeup and
waits at the door for the bus. She can't
wait to go. On the weekends she miss-

Even with the structure of the
Brown program, Mrs. Zack still has to
make many accommodations. "I used
to play four card games a week at
friends' homes," she said. "Now we
play twice a week at my house. I have
to be home at 4 p.m. every day to
meet the bus. But I'm not complain-
ing; you adjust your life."
Glenn Gendloff of Farmington Hills
struggles with a different set of issues
than most dementia patients; he also
has Parkinson's disease, a progressive
neurological condition which first
manifested itself when he turned 42.
During the past year, Gendloff, who
is now 75, began experiencing short-
term memory loss, which his doctors

"They're very conscientious," she
said. "They really care; you don't find
that today in too many places. And I
have to go to work every day, so you
could say they saved my life."
"They take you in their stride; they
handle you nicely," said Mr. Gendloff.
"There are times when he's perfect,"
said Mrs. Gendloff, describing the
frustration of living with Parkinson's
disease, "then five minutes later, he
can't get through the door by himself.
But Glenn is Mr. Rush-Push-Push,"
she said. "He just will not give in to
the disease."
"That comes from within," said Mr.
Gendloff, who bowled up until this
year, and can still hit a golf ball
"straight and short."
